Bursting with natural beauty and filled with cultural and archaeological treasures, the Prefecture of Pella is located in Central Macedonia, in northern Greece. Boasting 3000 years of history, Edessa was the capital of the first kingdom of the Macedonians and the fate of the city was identified with the history of Macedonia. Excavation finds give testimony to the area’s long history and to the significant role the area played regarding the social, financial, and cultural development of Macedonia and the Balkans.
Edessa is the location of majestic waterfalls, which are unique nationwide. At the edge of the rock between the waterfalls and the traditional settlement of Varosi lies the open-air water museum. The area offers unique opportunities for trekking to Mount Voras or tours through the forest of Gavaliotissa allowing the combination of several activities such as rappel, aerial crossings and trekking through one of the most beautiful and mysterious canyons in Greece.
Mount Voras is the third highest mountain in Greece, boasting a fully equipped ski centre. At 40km northwest of Edessa, nestled in a natural ravine at the feet of Mount Vora the thermal spas of Loutraki are renowned for their therapeutic properties.
At the area of Giannitsa, next to the Loudia River, lies an up-to-date Olympic size rowing center designed not only for athletes, but also for all of those who want to enjoy the enchanting beauty of the landscape while rowing down the river.
